How do I switch to a National Bank account?

If you like using the Internet for your banking, you can apply online for a National Bank Everyday or Savings account. Fill out the form, indicating if you wish to switch to The National Bank and we'll talk through your options when we call. Alternatively, you can call us on 0800 806 808 or read the information below for other switching options.

We can do it for you

If you like, we can manage the process for you.

Simply bring in the account numbers of your existing accounts held at other banks and we’ll do the rest. We’ll:

  • Take care of all the liaison with your current bank.
  • Transfer any existing automatic payments, bill payments and direct debits to your new account.
  • Let you know as soon as everything is organised and confirm the details with you.

All you need to do is:

  • Remember to give your new account details to your employer (if you have your salary direct credited).
  • Make sure any cheques from your old account are presented before the account is closed.

You can do it yourself and we’ll help you

Our step-by-step Switching Checklist (PDF 34.3 KB) shows you everything you need to do to transfer your accounts to us. And we’ll provide help and assistance anytime you need it.

Our special switching offer

When you switch your personal current and savings accounts to us we’ll:

  • Waive all monthly account and transaction fees for your first month, and
  • If we manage the process for you, we’ll also waive any loading fees for automatic payments, direct debits and bill payments – it won’t cost you anything to switch them to your new National Bank account.

Making the process easier

  • Remember to allow 2-3 weeks for the process to be completed - bear this in mind for Automatic Payment due dates, closing of accounts with other bank etc.
  • Provide your employer with your new account details as soon as possible.
  • We'll do all we can to assist - helping you with the process or keeping you up to date with progress.
