Setting up bill payments
Depending on who you need to pay, you should have a recent bill for the pre-authorised
organisation handy, or an account number and details to pay, or have your credit
card number ready when you set up your payees and bill payments.
- You can create both pre-authorised and self-selected payees and make bill payments
to them in Online Banking by selecting ‘Bill Payments’ from the Payments
menu.
- If you don't have Online Banking access, you can phone 0800 18 18 18 to set up a
pre-authorised organisation as a payee.
- You can also make payments to other organisations or individuals that are not pre-authorised,
by completing the ‘self-selected bill payment’ form. You can print out
a PDF version of the
form here or pick one up from any of National Bank branch.
To complete the form you will need to know the other party’s bank account
number.
Once you have filled in the form you can drop it into any National Bank
branch or mail it to:

Make payments 2-3 days in advance
Payments or cancellations made before 10pm on business days are processed by the
Bank that day. Those made after 10pm are processed the next business day. However,
it can take longer for some organisations to reconcile payments against your bill.
To avoid the late payment penalties some organisations charge, its wise to
make your payment 2-3 days before the due date. Remember you can schedule payments
in advance, up to 90 days ahead.
Bills are only paid if there are sufficient cleared funds in the account on the
payment date. If there are insufficient cleared funds after 3 days, the payment
will be cancelled and a fee charged.
